Southwire's 12 for Life - Motivating Students to Stay in School

Qualifying Students

To be eligible for 12 for Life, a student must be 16 years old, pass a drug screening, and be identified by graduation coaches, counselors, or program administrators as needing additional support to complete high school. If eligible, they can participate in the 12 for Life program that allows them to combine classroom instruction with four-hour work shifts. Students interested in participating in the program should contact their school graduation coach or counselor for more information.

12 for Life students benefit from:

  • Academic support, encouragement, and motivation to graduate
  • Real-world training and job skills
  • On-site workshops focusing on life skills from resume building to personal banking
  • Mentoring from Southwire employees who provide one-on-one support
  • The satisfaction and independence that comes from earning a paycheck
  • 2.0 units of school credit per semester for both the classroom and work components, eligible for use toward required technical or elective classes
  • Placement on a Southwire Company preferred hiring list upon successful completion of 12 for Life and earning a high school diploma
